babaguy ,,,,,,
You are getting a hard time on here and your linux experience so far is far
from wonderful.
Some of it is your fault and some of it is most definately not.
Firstly -- Learn to find and read the help. The help consists of documentation
on your install CD, FAQs on the (k)ubuntu website and any related articles
that you can find with a search. I suggest you start with email ettiquette.
Its not often this mob get upset over ettiquette ( and god knows, I've given
them enough excuses in the past) but yours is such that it is truly hard work
deciphering your posts. As a result I suspect some of th folk who could have
been of most assistance may have given up on you. Which is a pity. However
everybody here volunteers their time and it is entirely up to them if they
wish to help or at which point they decide to stop offering help. Never
forget this.
Secondly --- having read the documentation (whether on email ettiquette, BIOS
settings or how to install/upgrade (K)Ubuntu --- follow the bloody
instructions!!!!!!
Thirdly --- This is different from windows and there are ideas and concepts
that you have probably never come across before. There is no shame in not
getting them all right first time. No-one ever did, and if they say they did,
then they are lying. However, a very considerable majority of us got it at
second or third try after following points 1 and 2 above slavishly. This
demands hard work and discipline even if only for a small time. This may not
fit well with your exuded persona but thats the truth of it.
Kubuntu and, by extension, the wonderful world of Open Source comes for free
in monetary terms. But it also comes at the cost of doing some basic work for
yourself and no-one else can do that for you. The alternative is that you
will come running to us to explain _everything_ for you. And then we will all
get pissed off.
It seriously sounds like you need 10-20 mins hand-holding at your PC with one
of us. Members can generally be bribed for beer and in some cases sexual
favours. I'm real busy right now and off the beer. I'm also not generally
noted for being attracted to people whose handle ends in ..guy. So you need
to find someone else to take you through some absolute basics for 10-20 mins.
Tell us roughly where you stay and someone might be prepared to help. Or bring
your PC to the next meeting. We wont have internet access for the latest
Kubuntu upgrades but that need not be a complete stopper. After that, unless
you are a complete cretin, much will become clear and you will be able to
move forward on your own to a certain extent. On the other hand if you are a
complete cretin, then you should not be owning a computer and certainly not
one that runs a proper operating system.
Best Regards
Willie Fleming
