Debian 3.0 is the third release of the GNU/Linux operating system, a
distribution that is put together for the community by volunteers.
There is no company behind it, as long as the kernel and userspace
utilities keep being written, Debian will continue.
I'm guessing as you haven't heard of it, it's probably ot for you as
it's aimed at fairly experienced users...

No problem.  Can I ask what your motivation for trying Linux is?  I'm
just being nosey, on another list I'm subscribed to there's some
discussion going on as to what peoples expectations of Linux are, and
how it hasn't necessarily lived up to them.
