I stopped myself saying this earlier, but as DaveC has now said he
doesn't have time to do the notes, and keep them up to scratch, I'll
offer my time into this, if there's the demand (which there seems to
be a bit of).

If there is general consensus, I will work on the notes, replacing
all the code (where practical - sometimes the way it's done in the
examples is *the* way it's done, so there's no scope for changing the
C Code underneath).  I've already writen example answers to the
exercises if people are interested.
