We now use OpenOffice.org quite heavily in our product (which sits on a
heavily customised Debain 3.* base), and I've found 1.1.2 to be far
superior than anything earlier (1.1.1 was already quite good).

Well you'll notice that OpenOffice.org (and indeed StarOffice 6 onwards)
don't have that goddam awful desktop metaphor any more ;) - other than
that the experience should just be an improved version of the one you
were used to. You should make sure you go for OpenOffice.org 1.1.2
rather than 1.1.1 or earlier no matter what Sarge's package is. Quite
appart from anything the .deb's of OOo that are available don't install
the damn thing correctly (They assume you'lll never have any user
specific content, need to use many of the AutoPilot tools or in any way
externally script it), moreover there have been a number of bug fixes in
the most the 1.1.2 release that make life much easier, especially when
dealing with Word files.
