Re the music
I have been using Ardour/jamin for music comp on my Linux box ( Redhat -
planet and Studio to go - Debian)
They have both been working well.
Studio to go play out of the box from CD but is very easy to load to HD.
Uses KDE desktop which I dont like myself.
Give them a try.
I'm also testing 64studio on my 64 bit AMD and its solid for music work.
