Colin, your experience with helicopters sounds interesting - model or real? My only experience with aeroplanes is as a semi-part time passenger. Some flights I take off and land in. Some (in the past) I just take off in and part company with the plane mid-air.

At the moment the plan is for a single engine drone with a delta wing in a V configurtation where the back of the wing functions as the tail. Just two control surfaces initially though I might end up having to put canards. There are a lot of things with this drone design that will make it hard to keep airbourne.

I found my missing BMP280 and got that working last night. It was interesting to note that the "amazing accuracy" couldn't detect my lifting the thing a meter off the table. The pressure readings indicated I was at 138m altitude. My actual elevation according to USGS is 450 feet. Not too far off - only about 35 feet but proves why barometric pressure isn't good for accurate altitudes under 1,000 feet.
