Mark,

Thanks for repsonding. You will find the link to the axfr is in my last
mail to Matt:
http://packetstormsecurity.nl/groups/ADM/axfr0.5.2.tar.gz and it is what
you said. I have no idea whether it is CPAN afxr but I don't think so. I
am just figuring out the basics of DNS databases and I was told that this
utility would be useful.

My distro is debian 2.6.8.2-i386 (sarge I think).

I have tried apt-get install package name but it cannot find aclocal,
autoheader and makeinfo.

I will now try your approach and will see how we get on from there, fingers
crossed please.

Be in touch soon, Walter

Hi Walter,

Looks like you need to install the missing packages, what distribution are
you using? Using your distros package manager ensure the following are
installed:

aclocal
autoconfig
automake
autoheader
makeinfo

Usually when compiling and installing I ensure I am logged in as ROOT,
unpack the source files to /home/software/xxMyPackagexx (or wherever you
keep your source, not usually the any bin directory). Enter that directory
and type:

./configure && make

followed by a make install.

The make install part installs your binaries into the relevent locations,
usually copies binaries into the relevant BIN direcories.

Can you post the AXFR (Asynchronous Full Transfer Zone) source - couldn't
find this software online. Your not trying to install the CPAN AXFR module
are you?

Mark

Hi All

I have downloaded the above and want to install on my debian system. I have
0 experience with compiling and installing programs and although I have
tried every option in the install text file that comes with the archive, I
cannot get it to install.

The first step is to make sure the extraction goes into the correct folder
eg: /use/local/bin which it does. Then I checked the access/execute
permissions and made sure they are 'full rights' with chmod. But running
./config keeps showing missing aclocal, autoheader, autoconfig etc. I have
the log file I can attach if someone is able to assist.

Many thanks, Walter Jaggli
