I have a couple of virtual servers myself (not through bytemark though).
99.9% of the time you can't tell it's not a real server. Certain things,
like disk tools (fdisk etc) don't work, same for ifconfig, route and
others but then again, you shouldn't need them on a vserver. Unless
you're doing something really wacky, a vserver will almost certainly fit
your needs, plus it's generally substantially cheaper than getting a
colo box.
