[Wolves] 2.4.X ip forwarding

hi,
I have got my wireless and wired network working ok
but to do so I had to upgrade my kernel to 2.4.20
(i've
always used 2.2.X previously.)

I can ping between the gateway and client ok.  I can
ping
the internet from the gateway but masq isn't working,
so
i can't ping the internet from the client.

I am pinging an external IP, so this isn't a DNS
issue.
I have sent "1" to /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward.
The only thing I haven't done is issue the following
rules:
ipchains -P forward DENY
ipchains -A forward -i eth0 -j MASQ
which i did on the 2.2 gateway.  Will this be stopping
the forwarding from working? What are the iptables
equivs of these commands? any other ideas? Thanks, fizz
