[Wolves] random thought

i was thinking, there a few people on this list that are programmers, has
anyone ever thought about making some kind of reactive program, that could
be entered into a turing competition?
while idling away at work, i thought about getting writing something that
reacted in the usual ways, but also learned from the people it talked to,
learning differnet phrases and information on subjects it was unsure about,
not exactly AI, but basic learning atleast, with information stored on some
sort of recognition database... i mean if you made a core in C or something
else, then i'm sure other modules could be written in other languages
(although i'm sure this would be a pain in the behind, it would solve
arguments about which program it would work best in, and would offer
different ways of interacting with it)
is this just idle thought, or does anyone else see this is a workable idea?
