<SMUG MODE>
Well, I refused to give up and wipe my PC.
Tonight the needs of windows was so great that I took the risk and sorted
my problem.
This is what I did, can anyone now work out what happened ????
To fix it, I backup up ALL of my C drive, to my 'D drive' using Linux
From a Win98 boot floppy,I removed and recreated the primary partition (C
drive) and formatted it
I also did a quick SYS C: just to be sure, though I don't think that was
necessary.
I then went back to linux and copied back all the files I'd backed up.
Reboot, and grub orked and I got a C:\> prompt, but not win98
A quick scratch of the head and i realised that linux would not be able to
reset the attributes properly.
So 5 minutes typing ATTRIB +H +S <filename> and all is now well !!!!
</SMUG MODE>
I think my AV has vanished from the boot sector, but a quick reinstall
should sort that, and hopefully not screw up grub again.
But I can't risk that until my wife has done the work she needs for
tomorrow.
BTW If the pdf reader and prnter driver in Ubuntu had been any good, I
wouldn't have needed windows !
That's my next task, along with getting sound, and my Wacom to work properly
!!!
Thanks for all the help.....
