Hi folks,
If you wanted a copy of the talk notes and SQL examples, I've put a
copy here:
http://www.whinlatter.ukfsn.org/talks/pgtalk.tar.bz2
The notes are both in ODP (OpenDocument Presentation) and PDF formats,
and I've added a few additional bits. I've also commented all of the
SQL examples to explain what they are doing.
In the talk, I didn't make enough time to explain all of the
relationships between the tables, and the purpose of all the SQL
queries I showed. If you work through the examples in order, it might
make a little more sense!
If you have any queries about either PostgreSQL or the example
material, I'll be happy to answer them. If you send them to
wylug-discuss, that would probably be best.
One thing I didn't mention in the talk was that a book I found very
useful while learning how to get starting with PostgreSQL (and SQL in
general) was "Practical PostgreSQL", by Worsley and Drake (O'Reilly,
2002). It's a bit dated, but all the basics are still the same.
Regards,
Roger
