Hi Phil, thanks for the speedy and interesting reply.

I've had a bit of experience with GPS tracking and OSM, but not with the
bike-specific sites, although I've come across them. I'll give them a
closer look, now.

My previous experiences with Wine (one or twice a year for about 10
years) have all been horrendous ... with the exceptions of apps like the
Google ones that have a customised Wine built-in. 

I generally prefer a VM, but either way, the problem is rarely running
Windows programs ... it's getting data I/O in sensible formats.

Sounds interesting. It looks like 35-40 miles (well within my range),
but what about pace and elevation? ... it's 15-20 years since I really
took cycling seriously, so I'm trying to wind myself back up to full
fitness at a very conservative rate.
