At the Open Street Map Bradford Party, the recommended GPS 
was the eTrex Legend® HCx
Part Number: 010-00629-01

Pentagon GPS is the cheapest supplier - around £130

Main point if you want to contribute to OSM is don't save 
the data; download it in its raw state.
