I've heard a lot of people slag off Unity, not just those voices (less one
in support) on wylug-d. Not got there myself, yet, so I'mmmmm sooooooooo
looking forward to that!
I've got a bit cheesed off with new ubuntu features with (initially) poor
to non-existant documentation.
Upstart - really love it, especially the improved boot times. Except that
when it first came out finding docs to help me use upstart events etc was
like finding hens teeth. Not only that but dist upgrades crap all over any
changes you've made - not even with old event.d files backed up!
The dynamic motd system and Landscape - dynamic motd, sort of nice idea.
But coupling with Lansdcape client stuff and turned on by default is just
brain dead, especially in Ubuntu Server! Check out this thread and many
others on Ubuntu fora...

And yes I _DO_ think that pre-configured, unauthorized contact with
canonical is a problem. If it were microsoft we'd be up in arms about big
brother tactics, etc
Canonical obviously knows best, only it doesn't. Just like Gnome have
ALWAYS known what is best for their users and don't at all understand why
anyone would to do anything different from their default settings.
So the gnome3 stuff just doesn't surprize me.
Problem is, for quite a while Ubuntu has been an easy to use, upto
date distro. So much so that I've just lived-with/worked-around all the
major and minor annoyances. But I'm now looking elsewhere...
