Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience with voice modems under Linux?
Has anyone ever tried marrying up a voice modem and an internet phone
program?

Here's the situation:
I can Tele-work from home using BT Internet using an 0800 number and the
VPN setup I described in my talk last month. This works fine for
computer to computer comms and (apart from a small bit of latency) it's
just like being at work.

However, if I want to actually talk to someone, I've got a problem -
I've either got to break my BT connection, or use my mobile which is
both expensive and unreliable at home. Unfortunately the signal at home
it very poor (what a pity!).

My idea is to use an internet phone program for voice between home and
work. However, this means that whoever I am talking to also needs an
Iphone program, sound card, speakers and a microphone.

To overcome this I would like to use the modem in one of the Linux boxes
sat in the computer room on a switchboard extension as an interface
between my Iphone s/w and the switchboard, giving me the ability to dial
someone's extension number and talk to them as normal.

Is this possible or am I in cloud cuckoo land?
