You're asking if you should use linux on a linux user group? Of course
the answer is yes! :-)
Yes it's more stable, and yes it's less prone to viruses. I look after
about 50 XP machines, and I can tell you taht they are are no where
close to being as stable as the linux machines here. They need rebooting
every few days due to XP's inability to manage the memory properly

What do you mean by "connect them up"? Do you mean in a windows sense
that computer1 can see the files on computer2 using network
neighbourhood, or do you mean share the internet connection, or do you
mean both?
