You could try Klaus Knopper's excellent Knoppix (New V3.3-2003-11-03
release, www.knoppix.net) , which you can boot from CD rom, and if you
like what you see (and it's good!), install on your hardrive via
simple shell command. Getting familiar with the system should
encourage you ultimately to go Debian,
