Hi, Chris. I'm not a tecchie, but I do have a mixed lan, Mandrake and a
router/firewall.

Can I take it that the lan part is working correctly? You can ping the other
boxes and the router? If so, it's simply a matter of setting the router ip
as gateway to get Internet connection. I don't know the netgear router, but
I assume that they mostly work the same way. From a browser, typing in the
ip of the router should give you a login page for setting up the router.
This should work even before you have Internet access, as long as the router
and the lan are all using the same workgroup settings. The default settings
should be in the manual. Once in you can change passwords etc.. Usually you
can use ftp from a console as an alternative means of access.

As for the firewall, they are usually set up to deal with everything at the
router level, so that you need to loosen access for specific things, but
shouldn't need to be worried if you have no specific needs.

The network/internet setup wizard in Mandrake Control Center I have always
found it helpful, though some have not.

You will probably find some useful tips from
http://mandrake.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/AdMinistration - our community
twiki. The url in my sig is a redirect to the twiki, because it's easier to
remember.

If you have specific questions I'll try to answer. HTH

Anne

BTW, are you using nfs or samba on the lan?
