Fantatstic, I really do feel so much better now this little episode is over. If
I can, I'd like to ask 1 more question. When I booted into a console and
entered 'update-menus -v' both as root and as a user, I had a lot of script
(similar as enclosed with an earlier email).

At the end of root[su], the script finished with the following line:

cp: cannot create regular file
/home/xxxxxx/.kde/share/applnk-mdk-simplified/directory: No such file or
directory

Similarly when logged in as a user, the end line read:

Can't stat /home/xxxxx/.kde/share/applnk-mdk-simplified: No such file or
directory at /usr/bin/savekdmmimetypes.pl line 44

Anything I should be concerend about here?

Thanks for everything.
