Hmm - I wonder?  I do have a video capture card in here that uses various
zoran modules.  I had assumed that it would simply ignore anything it didn't
understand, but perhaps it's trying to make a guess.  When I've a bit more
time to spare I might try again.  Perhaps there's an interactive startup
possibility, as there is with knoppix.  That might give me an idea.

FWIW I'm normally running Mandrake 10.1 on that box, with a 2.6.8.1-24 kernel
and xorg.
