[Wylug-help] Linux Distro on Bootable USB Stick

The recent mails about Linux support for laptops made me think more
about the USB distro idea. If I had to go somewhere with no detailed
knowledge of what hardware would be available at the other end, and
gaurantee I would have the apps I needed up and running (especially to
present from, eg for a training course), I would go with a laptop.
Sounds backwards, I know, but you can get it ready beforehand and know
it works.
As an example, all the desktops where I'm currently working are Dell SX
machines and are based on laptop hardware (quite common these days, they
are smaller and quieter), and we had various problems with graphics
cards and hardware support using the latest Knoppix CD - some machines
had low resolution, and none of the newer ones worked at all. I think it
would be nearly impossible to gaurantee you could run your distro on
whatever you find at the other end.
If you were just swapping between a few machines you knew it would be handy.
Just my 2p,
Adam
