There is a wiki entry at http://wiki.eeeuser.com/ all about adding
extra repositories. Take a look at...

and especially the pinning. Yes it's a pain, and is far more complicated 
than either a standard Debian or Ubuntu. That's because the Xandros distro 
has diverted sufficiently fromt he base debian that you could seriously 
shoot yourself in the foot.

after that from the command line try...

  sudo apt-get install aspell aspell-en etc....
