I can't tell if this was a deliberate pun or an honest mistake, but
it's very satisfying either way.  "Homonym" is a pretty good homonym
for "Hominem", part of the actual phrase you'd use there...

Well, amused me briefly anyway.

To summarise the thread so far:

- If your kernel doesn't boot far enough to start giving you
diagnostics then you're going to have a hard time finding out what's
gone wrong.

- Different distributions do different things with the kernels that
they supply.  You may find a different distribution has a different
take on things that works with your hardware.

- Different distributions have different upgrade policies that may
conflict with your needs, and it can be difficult to evaluate what
those needs might be ahead of time.

Getting back to the OP then - what's the current status?
