There's really no difference between Ubuntu and Xubuntu when it comes to 
performance. Don't know if this is still the case today but would 
explain why Lubuntu (LXDE) is higher up on distrowatch than Xubuntu. 
Strangely on distros like Arch, Xfce is lighter
