 ....by making sure that whatever laptop you pick on has a screen for
which there is a known *free* driver in Linux

 ....ditto wifi/card driver for connection to the internet

 ....as much core as you can pack in the box

 ....likewise biggest harddrive you can fit.

Check all of these *before* you plump for the box.

[Of course, if you're using a throwaway box ("beggars can't be choosers"
option), just install the latest Debian on it.
Then solve each problem as you encounter it !]
