I would suggest installing the client, it isn't just for running
meetings and you can turn off video.

As for the browser, did your browser update in the period between
working and not working?
Equally, could something have changed on the network?
One more thought, check which sound device your browser is using,
presuming that you have it managed by software that supports
per-application settings.
