Title: Linux Systems Administrator - Network Engineer - DevOps

We provide business critical applications to users in the HR & Staffing
sector, primarily in the UK, but increasingly with an international element.
Established for 9 years, we occupy a leadership position and deliver
business critical services from a multi-tenant SaaS platform against
stringent SLAs.

development. You will be reporting to the Technical Director.

Key responsibilities:
 - Administration of physical and virtual Linux servers. Across production,
staging and development environments. Currently circa 80 machines.
 - Administration of all network infrastructure.
 - Installation and maintenance of physical hardware at 2 datacentre
locations.
 - Automate (scripting and configuration management) and document (version
control and wiki) as much of your role as humanly possible.
 - Evaluate and implement new technology to improve our platform.
 - Work closely with developers to provide architectural guidance, uphold
best practices, assist with troubleshooting and ensure that application
deployments are carried out with minimal risk.
 - Monitoring of service status. Preemptive and reactive resolution of
service impacting issues.
 - Collect and analyse data for the purpose of capacity planning and
hardware procurement.
 - Liaise with hardware vendors and service suppliers.
 - Be responsible for making mature and authoritative decisions.

Required:
 - 5+ years experience of Debian, Redhat or Gentoo Linux.
 - 5+ years experience in production Internet environments.
 - 3+ years multi-homed BGP – preferably OpenBGPd. Will consider suitably
qualified (CCNP) candidates with practical experience.
 - Apache, MySQL, Exim and Courier-IMAP – clustering, high availability,
tuning.
 - Fluency in shell scripting plus one other language, such as Python or
Ruby.
 - Comfortable with diving into code. Even languages that you might not be
familiar with.
 - Puppet or another SCM utility, such as Chef.
 - Subversion VCS or a DVCS, such as Git or Mercurial.
 - Trac or Redmine issue tracking.
 - Virtualisation – VMWare ESXi and one other, such as XenSource or KVM.
 - NetApp – ONTAP, SAN (iSCSI), NAS (NFS), MultiStore.
 - Storage – RAID, LVM.
 - Firewalling – OpenBSD PF or large-scale Iptables.
 - Load balancing – PF, Nginx, HAproxy, Varnish.
 - Networking – Ethernet bonding, VLANs, STP.
 - Monitoring – Cacti, Nagios, Zabbix or Zenoss.
 - Public Key Infrastructure – OpenSSL, PKCS, x509, two-factor
authentication.
 - DNS – ISC BIND or PowerDNS.
 - Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.

Desired:
 - Familiarity with OpenBSD.
 - Previous use of ArchLinux, Linux From Scratch, or a similar barebones
distribution.
 - Alignment with and enthusiasm to implement DevOps principles.
 - Understanding of MVC frameworks – Django and CAKE.
 - Familiarity with the operation of a RIPE Local Internet Registry.
 - Nginx reverse-proxy.
 - SOAP and REST protocols.
 - ITIL fundamentals.
 - IBM x86 Blade hardware.
 - 3com, Nortel and Cisco network hardware.
