I had problems getting Slack installed on on old Gateway 2000 laptop. it had like a 500M drive and the CD and floppy were swappable, but NOT hot swappable. So i had to make a little tiny fat partition and have it load dos. Then i had to copy zImage up to the little DOS partition and then use LoadLin to boot up the install disk image. It was a mess. Then the next struggle was getting a decent resolution in X. XF86Config was a pain.

Where are you running into problems?

Eventually I got it going, and it ran sweet. I had some fun on that little box.

Hi Bob,

I don't know if there are any plans to have an intallfest soon in
Nottingham (and I couldn't help if there was as I'm living overseas at
the moment) but if you tell us what problems you have then perhaps we
can offer you some advice.

Have you had a look at the site http://www.linux-laptop.net/ ? It has
links to lots of people's sites that have put linux on a wide variety of
laptops and have documented their experiences.

Also, what with laptops being so portable, you could take it along to
any of the NLug events and I'm sure someone would be there that could
help.

Regards,
