[Nottingham] Box appearing on screen

Thanks for all ideas.

It is the display dialog that is superimposed onto the screen by the electronics in the monitor. I've managed to be able to get this to display be pressing one of the buttons and also close it. However, when it comes up by 'itself' I am unable to close it.

I've tried the following as suggested:

1) The buttons are on the front of the monitor and there is nothing pressing on them.

2) The video lead is tightened (by screws) into the socket at the back of the computer.

3) I believe that the video cable is firmly in place in the monitor as it can not be removed without taking the monitor apart.

4) (Surprisingly) When I unplug the monitor the display disappears leaving a message about checking the video cable.

5) (Thankfully) The kitten has not chewed the cable.

Are there any other suggestions?
